What is DirectShow/DirectX?

Microsoft DirectX® is an advanced suite of multimedia application programming interfaces (APIs) built into Microsoft Windows® operating systems. DirectShow is part of DirectX.

DirectX provides a standard development platform for Windows-based PCs by enabling software developers to access specialized hardware features without having to write hardware-specific code. This technology was first introduced in 1995 and is a recognized standard for multimedia application development on the Windows platform.

DirectShow is the part of DirectX defining Image Capturing. We have adding DirectShow compatibility to Scorpion because we believe that DirectShow will become the defacto standard for Image Capturing on PC also for professional vision systems removing the need for proprietary framegrabber and special image capturing APIs.

Where can i find information about DirectX and DirectShow?

Microsoft have a DirectX homepage with a lot of information. Another good source on DirectX/DirectShow is Imaging Source’s website. They have a very good explanation of DirectShow under the heading What is WDM? another useful link is What is DirectX?

Cannot get image from Prosilica GigE GC660C?

I am attempting to interface a Prosilica GC660C to Scorpion 7.2 .

  • I have found the camera driver PVGrab.dll and I know that it talks to the camera because I can set parameters in the camera.
  • I get a green check mark and the camera works fine with prosilica’s viewer.
  • In the Image Settings the source identifies my GC660C and I get a green check mark also.

Pressing Snapshot I get no image!

Checklist

  1. Check firewall setting
  2. Check that camera bandwidth is not to high
  3. Try setting packet size to 1500
